Primary School

In the loving peace, justice and joy of Jesus, we achieve.

Walking home - and mobile phones.

Children in Year 5 and Year 6 are getting ready to transition into secondary school.  As they grow, parents may want to allow their chidlren to walk home.  Parents who want their child to walk are inform us via the online permission forms completed at the beginnng of the academic year.

Children in Years 5 and 6 cannot be legally responsible for any siblings and we would discourage younger siblings from Year 4 below from walking without an adult.

As part of this readying for transition, parents sometimes wish for children to bring their mobile phones into school for the walk home. This needs to be a discussion between adults - mobile phones in school are prohibited unless children are walking home independently.  Any other reason for having phones in school should be discussed with the Principal or Vice Principal. All children who bring in phones must have parental signed permission that they have understood the rules for phones in school.

  • All phones must be switched off at all times on school premises.  Phones are to be handed in to the class teacher who will place the phone in a locked drawer. The phone must stay in the drawer until the child goes home.
  • Phones should be used responsibly to and from school. Irresponsible behaviour may fall within school remit of safeguarding and will be dealt with accordingly.
  • Any child who brings a phone into school with no signed consent, or uses their phone on school premises, will have their phone confiscated.  This phone will only be returned by the Principal or Vice Principal to a parent.
