Catholic Social Teaching

Family and Community

We talked about what a community is and discussed the different communities we are part of. We also thought about all the ways we can make positive contributions to our home, school and parish community.

Dignity of the human person

We were reminded that every person is made in the image and likeness of God but that we are all unique and special. Each one of us is a member of God's family and he loves us all.

Rights and Responsibilities

We talked about how children have a right to be happy. We thought about what happiness is and the things that make them happy. For many of the children this included spending time with friends or family, listening to music or when people did kind things for them.

Option for the poor and vulnerable

The children discussed how some people have very little while others have plenty. They thought about why this might be and created posters to draw peoples' attention to the fact that the distribution of wealth in the world is not always fair. The children said prayers for people in the world whose lives are not so easy. We thought about actions we could take to help others.
