Our Prayer Garden
We are very lucky at St. James’ to have a small prayer garden which can be used for collective worship and to spend quite moments of contemplation in.
During the Spring and Summer of 2025, we will be working with our school and parish community to develop this area so it is more thoughtfully designed, to create a perfect, peaceful space, in nature, for us to reflect and connect spiritually.
Autumn 2024
This term Mrs Bruton has worked with groups of children to:
- learn about The Magnificat prayer and hymn
- learn about church seasons and the relationship to yearly seasons
- learn about the story of Creation
- reflect on how we are custodians of the Earth
- prepare Bidding Prayers for a Creation prayer service
- reflect on the experience the children had at Adoration of the Blessed Eucharist
- discuss prayerfulness and how we can better support our prayer friends
- think about the words and meaning of the Our Father
- learn about how October is a month where we remember our mother, Mary
- learn about the mysteries of the Rosary and how to use Rosary beads
- make a Pope Francis prayer hand
- make a Rosary beads of our own
The children have also cared for the prayer garden and made it look nicer by:
- Making crosses with green wool to display or hang up somewhere in the garden
- weeding around the statue of Mary
- cleaning Mary’s statue
- general tidying up around the prayer garden
- painting stones and arranging them around the statue
- painting suncatchers, reflecting Gods wonderful creation
