We believe very human person is made in the image and likeness of God. This is a gift that we all share as fellow human beings; we are all infinitely loved by our Creator.
God is present in every human person, regardless of religion, culture, nationality, orientation or economic standing. Each one of us is unique and beautiful. We are called to treat every person and every creature with loving respect.

All of us at St. James’ have been on a journey for the last couple of years: we have been working hard to become a school of sanctuary. This means a place that is friendly and welcoming to all people and especially refugees and asylum seekers.
We have completed many activities in this time, ranging from like making orange paper planes with messages of welcome on, writing letters to the new Prime Minister, to taking part in a Danceathon to raise money for St. Chad’s Sanctuary.
On Friday 12th July 2024, Barbara Forbes, from School of Sanctuary, plus two colleagues, visited St. James’ to carry out an assessment to see if we would qualify as a ‘school of sanctuary’. They were very impressed with the many pieces of evidence, particularly the quality of children’s work. After a short tour of the school, our visitors also met with our Yr6 Caritas team – Daniel, Mollie, Teighlor and Imogen. They were absolutely blown away with the knowledge, eloquence and passion of these children. It was no surprise to learn that St. James’ deserved the award to recognise that we are a School of Sanctuary!
