St Nicholas Owen: A Short Biography
St Nicholas Owen was an English Jesuit layman born in 1562. He is known for his bravery during a time when practising Catholicism was dangerous. Nicholas was a talented carpenter who built secret hiding places, called 'priests' holes,' where priests could hide from those trying to capture them. He was arrested in 1606 and, even though he was tortured, he stayed true to his faith. He sadly died in prison later that same year.
St Nicholas Owen’s feast day is celebrated on March 22nd, honouring his courage and faithfulness, reminding us to stand up for what we believe in.
